I remember a few years back some friends and I talked about this cool-sounding new product for washing cars: Mr. Clean Auto-Dry. In theory, it was supposed to keep you from having to dry your car after washing. That part is always a problem because if you don’t do it all fast and complete, you get spots.

Fast forward to last night, time to wash the car. I swung by Target to check out the Auto-Dry now, and they had a full kit with all the gear you need for $18. I figured that was cheap enough for an experiment. To my surprise, it range up $8 total at the checkout – Target often doesn’t label all their clearance products. $8 is definitely fair.
So here’s how it went: Set to rinse, rinse. Set to soap, spray soap and rub in with a mitt like you normally would. Set to rinse again, rinse again. Set to Auto-Dry, and basically spray the car from top to bottom like you’re spray-painting it. 5 minutes later, my car was completely dry and spotless. It apparently filters the water through the auto-dry cycle and de-ionizes it, so it pulls the existing water off the car… At a molecular level. 30 minutes max, and not much actual work.
Didn’t know Mr. Clean was a scientist, did you?
Here are the results, the next day. It was too dark to take pictures after washing. Still super clean.
