We’re getting close! 38-week Checkup
(I may have skipped the post about our 37 week appointment. Let’s not live in the past. Ok? I don’t go to your blog and heckle you.)
It’s almost go time! Blair and I went to her (our?) 38-week checkup this afternoon. This was the “big” appointment where they checked things out a little more directly. The good thing about that is, for the first time we get some solid details rather than guesstimates and opinions.
For those of you who know about these things, I’ll give you the scientific info: Blair was 1.5cm dilated, 70% effaced and Grayson was at -1 (his station). For 38 weeks, this is much better than we or the doctor expected! A “good” checkup for your first baby at this point would have been 1cm dilated and 50% effaced, but so few women are at this point that he encouraged us last week not to be disappointed if things were moving slower.
Now for those of you who have no idea what any of that means (station, effaced, dilated, etc) I’ll help you out. Visualize that Grayson is this basketball:
Now imagine that that basketball is sitting at home in our crib 7 days from now! The doctor at first said Grayson could be on his way “by the end of the week”, but later backed off a bit and said there’s a good chance it’ll happen within the next week (I forgot to ask if he included weekends or just business days).
We’re both so excited, nervous, and maybe a tiny bit panicked.. we can’t wait to meet our little boy!
