So, I’m eating at Chuy’s last night with a good friend of mine, and while I suppose we could have ordered “fajitas for two”, we’re men, so we both ordered “fajitas for one” instead. You all probably know I don’t like my foods to touch each other let alone to touch other people’s foods… even if they are the same.
We place our order and not more than 4 minutes later, our waiter serves us our food. We were impressed. I jokingly asked him if someone had just sent back two orders of chicken fajitas, which of course was followed by a few seconds of awkward silence. Apparently my smile was not enough to convince him that I was not, in fact, being serious.
He eventually replied, “Nope. These are fresh. You only have to let the skillet heat up for fajitas so as long as you’re not ordering anything else, it comes fast.”
Not satisfied with the previous awkward silence, I commented, “So you’re saying my wife is the reason I have to wait to eat dinner?” 1…2…3…10 seconds of awkwardness. Much better.
So the moral of the story is, if you want to feed a family of 8 in under 10 minutes start to finish, do whatever you can to convince them that fajitas are the only way to go.
It’s Grayson’s first summer, so we wanted to take advantage of the great weather and get him some outdoor play time. He used to only cool off in the bath (see pictures), but Blair and I picked up a big inflatable pool for him to try out in the back yard!
Along with his first time ‘swimming’, he’s learning new things everyday. He loves following Mommy, Daddy and Indy (our Westie) around the house in his walker. If he’s not following us, he’s probably heading straight for the kitchen cabinets which he loves to open. Luckily the walker keeps him from opening them too far.
He’s being quite a bit more vocal now, and while he hasn’t said “mama” or “dada” yet, he will scream at the top of his lungs and then laugh pretty hard. His top front teeth are starting to come in, too. With all of this excitement, we decided to go ahead and lower the mattress in his crib just to make sure he doesn’t add climbing to his list of activities… . Out little boy is growing up fast!
Update: Media Overload! Here are some videos to show a few of Grayson’s favorite (and not so favorite) things!
I don’t even know how to set this up. Let’s just say that we ‘found out’ about one of Grayson’s learned behaviors this afternoon. We’d like to explain more, but we honestly have no idea either.
Since the last update, Grayson has tried a lot of new things! He’s rolling over with more regularity, grabbing his feet (and trying to eat them), enjoying his exersaucer and learning about all the fun toys that it has, and trying to sit up on his own. We can’t wait to see what changes the next month brings.
Grayson also had his 6 month appointment today. He gained a couple of pounds since the last one (19lb 3oz), and is an inch and a half taller! He handled his shots like a pro, too, only crying for a few seconds before going back to searching for the next thing he could put in his mouth.
And, like I mentioned in the last update, there is some more food content. Grayson tried his first real foods this month! We started off with some yummy (bland) rice cereal, graduated to a little oatmeal, and last night even tried peas!
The next couple of blog posts may be about eating. For good reason. Here’s Grayson practicing his reading comprehension. I don’t think it’s exactly what Piper intended, but it’s open to interpretation.
Grayson has been a little extra fussy this week on his vacation with mommy in Ft. Worth. We were wondering what might be going on, and then Blair noticed a sharp point on his lower gums. It’s a tooth coming in! Both of his bottom center teeth are on their way — one is still just a bud, but the other has a corner sticking out. Out little man is growing up!
It’s hard to get a picture of a rolling, kicking, flailing active baby, especially when his mouth is a little sore, but as soon as we’re able we’ll get some pictures up.
Not only was Grayson hungry right about an “hour” late this morning, but his bedtime routine was pushed off by exactly an hour, too. No more early nights for mom and dad – 9:30PM it is!
Here are a few pictures we’ve been meaning to share with everyone:
Apparently Grayson has figured out a new way to tire himself out at bedtime. Blair and I heard a little commotion coming from the nursery after putting him down for the night, and we found him rolling himself over, over and over again until he eventually passed out, exhausted!
So I was spending some quality time with Grayson on Saturday, watching a Fight Club on tv… and he fell asleep. His mommy did the same thing the first two times I tried to introduce her to fight club.
Am I the only person who has made it through this movie in one sitting or something?
